Hardwood, softwood, fabric, high-tec plastics, flooring, carpeting, vacu-formed molds, cast decorative pieces – our carpenters have experience working with a wide variety of materials. Led by a Lead Carpenter, who acts as the project foreman on the shop floor, our team of in-house carpenters picks up from the welders and manifest form from a designer’s vision into physical reality.

Drafting & Design
Working from existing designs or rough concepts, the design process can also include the development of 3-dimensional digital imaging, animation rendering, and complete design-builds.
The drafting department is responsible for turning designs and /or rough concepts and sketches into workable drawings that house the construction, automation, lighting, and special effect requirements of the project.
We provide construction drawings, technical manuals, scaled imaging, structurally sound digital models, graphics adjustments, and the accurate scaling and positioning of scenic structures, automations, and lighting effects.

Fibreglass
Our fibreglass department is almost limitless in what it can create. Scuptures of all dimensions, durabilities, textures and finishes as required by the project.
We work with polyester resin, fibreglass and gel coats, and a variety of other materials and material blends.

Lighting & Automations
Great Lakes offers a variety of options in which to control movement, lighting, sound, special effects, and scenic operations.
Lighting & automations can be controlled using electrics, pneumatics, hydraulics, radio frequencies, computer programming, wiring, stagehand logic, or relay logic.
Our capable Lead Electrician supervises the construction and integration of lighting, sound, moving components, pneumatic actuators, winch motors and many other types of electronic components to projects

The CNC allows us to offer our clients an economical alternative as it works in conjunction with computer design and animation. With the ability to communicate on-line renderings to the cnc router.
We have the ability to do mold making, precision wood working, sign making, veneer inlay, templates, Aluminum cutting etching, engraving, stencil design, producing or replicating ornate pieces, 2-dimensional sculpting.

Scenic Artistry & Industrial Painting
When it comes to the feel and look of a project our Lead Scenic Artist operates as our in-house art director, and works closely with the designer and the shop project-team to bring the scenery to life.
Painted backdrops, replicated antique finishes, sleek modern lines, turn of the century traditionalism, whether it wants to feel 5 days old or 100 years old, like a Paris opera house, or a southern jungle our scenic artists can create it.
Our shop is outfitted with spray coating equipment used to apply or dispense coatings, paints, fluids, cleaners, chemicals, powders and other industrial materials.

Soft Goods
The Soft Goods Department makes stage draperies, awnings, appliques, soft props, upholstery, stitched drops, drop alterations, and more.
This department is immensely knowledgeable of the characteristics and capabilities in an enormous and diverse range of soft materials, thus helping the designer achieve the proper texture, color, and light transferring effects as required by the design.

Welding
Our skilled welding crews work from shop drawings and client specifications to create shape and structure for projects.
Trained to work with a variety of materials our welders use their knowledge of fluxes and base metals to analyze, plan and execute welds maintaining the highest quality and safety standards.
